Will 16- and 17-Year-Olds Vote the Same as Their Parents?
As described by Dr. Jan Eichhorn in her study “How lowering the voting age to 16 can be an opportunity to improve youth political engagement,” while parents can influence their child's probability of participating in the act of voting, they do not have much influence on their voting decisions.
Over 40% of young people had different voting intentions than a parent interviewed. [...] while parents can influence their children’s likelihood to vote, [...] [they] do not see their parents as sources of authoritative political insight.”
